We write because we were created to. Ever since the first scratchings on cave walls, people have tried to communicate their thoughts, stories and ideas through the written word. People of faith are no different.

This four-part workshop is aimed at people who want to explore writing as part of their Christian walk. You can work through the material on your own or as part of a discussion group. And by all means post comments or ask questions at the end of each session. If you are not interested in Christian writing but would still like to develop your writing gift, visit my writing advice website The Crafty Writer where there is plenty of other material which you may find helpful.

  1. What’s your style?
God the storyteller; it’s all in the Bible.
Poetry, storytelling, drama, apologetics and non-fiction prose – finding your natural expression.
  2. What’s the message?
The pros and cons of message-based writing. Should Christians be involved in secular writing?
  3. Writing as Witness
Using your gift to share God’s love.
  4. Writing as Worship
Using your writing gift to enrich your relationship with God.

Hi Sam, that’s great. Where are you based (geographically)? The UK Association of Christian Writers has a very supportive Facebook Forum that you might want to join. You don’t have to be an ACW member to join the FB group. Let me know if you’re keen and I will send you an invitation.

I enjoyed your article on Christian Writing. I am personally interested in writing something for Christian readers. My favourite saint is St. Joseph the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. I would like to put the whole story from his point of view as if he is narrating everything that happened till his death.
Could you please guide me how to go about it. I will be grateful to you.
    Thanks,
    Ghonsalo.

      Hello Ghonsalo,

I’m glad you enjoyed the course. If you continue and do the bigger Crafty Writer Creative Writing Course you will see there are sessions on constructing a short story and writing from a point of view. http://creative-writing-course.thecraftywriter.com/

Though I have not been enrolled yet, I think the course is so great and exciting to me. I wish however, I got enrolled right away.
My interest is that I should the course through distance learning programs where modules are sent and assignments are posted to you for marking, assessing, evaluating and grading
can you also consider enrolling me to study by e-mails, where the material could be downloaded.
I a saying and suggesting all this because I have no full computer literacy and Online courses would be difficult for me, except through e-mail learning programs.

    Yours faithfully,
    Maurice Mulenga.

  5. I posted on here in 2012 just days before my husband passed away. I’m going to take another look at your instructions and see how things go. Thank you for this reconnection. I hope it is what I’ve been looking for.
